Instructor Bio:
My name is Donna Witherspoon Barlowe, born and raised in Henry County I am 64 years old. I have been teaching line dance since 2000 with Dee Yeck, today teaching with active Multiple Myeloma Cancer and Fibromyalgia.
I started teaching at the skating rink Paris On Wheels with Dee Yeck. She has always been my dance mentor, and always will be. She passed in 2017 , and inspired me to stay active in line dance. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2000. I came off all my meds in 2006 and treated my health with exercise, line dance. I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma Cancer after while putting on my pants and breaking my L4 in 2021. As soon as I could I started back dancing. Those 6 months were hard.. I was stiff, moving slow and was tired. Today my Vanderbilt Meloma Team are impressed by me teaching 2 classes and dancing to local bands 2-3 times a week. My goal in steps 7000- 10,000 steps a week. Not all exercise is fun... dancing is a happy moving experience. It is the number 3 in the Dr's list of exercise after Surgery and Heart issues, it is great for the mind, body and soul. It also helps with balancing. This is not my words, there has been a 21 year studying on dancing.
I taught line dance at Murray State University at the Wellness Center from 2006 - Untill I retired in 2017. Then I started teaching locally at the Paris Civic Center from 2017 until 2021 when I broke my L4. I am member of the NTA , The National Teacher's Association and my teachers certification in 2006 Murray State. I also have my CPR certification.
